1 PERMISSION (can2, could1, may1, might1) 許可(can2、 could1、 may1、 might1)
(a) British speakers normally use can to give or request permission 英國人一般用can字來表示準許或請求許可

Can I come too? 我也可以來嗎? Could is more polite but is only used in questions 用could一詞更客氣些, 但只用於疑問句中

(a) Could or might express more doubt or hesitation than may *could或might比may更含懷疑或猶豫之意
That may be our taxi now! 那輛可能就是我們的計程車了.
That could/might be our taxi (but I doubt it). 那輛有可能是我們的計程車(但我有所懷疑).
(b) In questions and negative sentences can replaces may. 在疑問句和否定句中, 用can代替may. *Compare 試比較
